London is one of those very touristic cities that many people visit for its great attractions. But, not everyone who visits London knows where to go beyond the major tourist attractions. There are many truly amazing places to visit in London that tourists might not know of. This is why I made this list for you. As an expat living in London, I got to experience the touristy London at first, but also got to experience the local life. This list will help you discover London’s secret life, known only by the locals.
1) Primrose Hill
Primrose Hill in Regent’s Park provides spectacular views of London skyline when you reach its summit. It is the perfect spot for a romantic picnic or to just sit and relax while admiring your beautiful surroundings; nature on one hand and city views on the other. Primrose Hill is a popular hangout spot for London’s locals, especially on NYE when the masses gather in the area to watch the fireworks.
2) Shri Swaminarayan Mandir
This might sound surprising for many of you, but there is a beautiful Hindu temple in London. The Swaminarayan Mandir is a truly hidden gem, located in Neasden in North of London.
3) Neal’s Yard
Somewhere hidden inside Covent Garden, there is a colourful courtyard filled with street art. Although small, Neal’s Yard is definitely worth a visit for its beautiful graffiti and cute shops.
4) Kenwood House
Located in Hampstead Heat park, there is a historic home from the 17th century which once served as a seat for the aristocratic Murray and Guinness families. Kenwood house does not only have a rich history, but also is a great place to visit due to its beautiful gardens.
5) Little Venice
If you fancy escaping the busy city life, Little Venice is the perfect place for you. It is a scenic London neighbourhood best known for its canals and boats that will make you feel like you are in Venice, Italy.
6) Canary Wharf
Although not very known to tourists, Canary Wharf is a great place to visit. It is a financial district of London with many skyscrapers and cafes and bars to visit especially during weekdays. During the winter, Canary Wharf hosts London’s Light Festival with beautiful light displays, while during summertime, it is the home of many concerts and events. For families, it will be nice to visit the Museum of London Docklands.
7) Hampstead Village
Hampstead must be my favourite residential neighbourhood in London. If I could choose where to live, that would be it. Surrounded by the beautiful park Hampstead Heat and filled with cute boutiques, cafes and restaurants- Hampstead is truly a charming place to visit.
