ABOUT GROSVENOR HOUSE LONDON
Grosvenor House is one of the most famous and well-accredited 5 star hotels in London. Located in Central London on Park Lane, Grosvenor House Hotel by JW Marriot Hotels provides an unforgettable luxurious experience to its guests. With elegant rooms and a variety of gourmet restaurants- Grosvenor House is the ultimate luxury hotel.
Grosvenor House is much more than just another luxury hotel; It is a true British landmark and a cultural hub.
RICH WITH HISTORY
The luxury hotel has opened in 1929 in a building that was built in the 1920s. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Westminster, whose family name is Grosvenor. Albert Octavius Edwards was the man that conceived and built the hotel, however, the construction was only completed in the 1950s.
The Great Room at the Grosvenor House is famous for hosting many high profile events. Since 1930s it was the place where the world’s oldest charity ball, the Royal Caledonian Ball, was held. Originally, the Great Room was built as an ice-rink and it was there where in 1933 Queen Elizabeth II learnt how to ice-skate when she was just 7 years-old.
The hotel underwent restoration and renovation and was reopened in 2008. This year, the hotel is celebrating its 90th birthday.
OUR EXPERIENCE
Myself and my friend Ana, the blogger behind Faded Spring, along with other bloggers were invited to a food press tour to sample their upscale restaurants’ menus. Me and Ana even had the pleasure to stay the night at the hotel. We had a lovely time learning about the hotel’s history and sampling its dinning options.
DINNING OPTIONS:
THE PARK ROOM
When we arrived at the hotel we joined the rest of the girls and were greeted with a glass of the exceptional Perrier–Jouët champagne from their beautiful Elle Epoque bottle. Light and gold, with a floral flavour, the champagne was a real delight. It was so interesting to find out that Oscar Wilde was a fan of the champagne.
I have already had an afternoon-tea at the Park Room before on a different occasion. Therefore, I am well familiar with their incredibly delicious afternoon-tea.
RUYA LONDON
We then left the lobby and went to sample first courses at one of the hotel’s restaurants, Ruya London. Ruya London is a sophisticated and contemporary restaurant offering Meditternean food inspired by historic Anatolian cuisine. The interior was elegant and Middle-Eastern style but yet very modern. I especially loved the presentation of the dishes.
The restaurant is inspired by Unut Ozkanca’s Turkish heritage. The concept is led by Chef Patron Colin Clague who also has experience working at Zuma and Jean Georges under his belt.
We were served with a variety of starters including beetroot salad with goat’s cheese, corn bread and watermelon.
CORRIGAN’S MAYFAIR
Afterwards, we moved on to sample the main courses at Corrigan’s Mayfair, which is also located at the hotel.
Corrigan’s Mayfair is the hotel’s award winning restaurant by chef Richard Corrigan. It features a range of dishes from seafood to steak with seasonal and fresh produce. I have selected the vegetarian option for my main which was a delicious truffle tagliatelle with spinach.
JW STEAKHOUSE
At last, we sampled desserts including the hotel’s renowned cheesecake. The cheesecake was mouthwatering indeed. After all, it was given the adjective “legendary” for a reason. We even got to take home a small cheesecake. Surely, my fiancé was over-the-moon that he also got to taste it.
In addition, I noted the interior at the JW steakhouse. I could definitely recognise that a lot of planning and thought went into the decor, as the small details made the whole difference. It is also worth mentioning the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service by the staff.
THE ROYAL SUITE
We were given a tour of The Royal Suite which enjoyed the present of many VIPs over the years. The suite is 170 square meters of pampering and elegance. It features art work and a dinning room that can cater to 12 guests.
At the suite, we were given a short lecture about the hotel’s rich history. It was interesting to find out how the Grosvenor House, being a prominent landmark, survived WWII.
THE ACCOMMODATION
After the food tour, me and Ana stayed the night at the hotel. We were given a stunning suite with spacious living room and a bedroom. The rooms at Grosvenor House are elegant and classy, featuring marble bathrooms and comfortable bedding complimented with stylish decor.
The white marble bathroom definitely won our hearts and so did the beautiful interior. With a colour scheme of yellow and green, elegant cushions and high quality sofas- the rooms at Grosvenor House hotel are the definition of luxury.
Waking up at a suite at Grosvenor House hotel was an incredible experience. I felt much appreciation to the hotel’s highest standards of hospitality and as well as to its rich history full of important figures and events.
THE BREAKFAST
Having stayed in many luxury hotels around the world, I can safely say that the breakfast at Grosvenor House hotel is one of the best compared to other such 5-star hotels.
Full with endless options such as healthy juices, pastries, different style of eggs and meat- the breakfast at the hotel is guaranteed to cater to every one’s needs.
There is also an option to order eggs Benedict which is an absolute dream for every breakfast lover.
A huge variety of breads and pastries was also available at the buffet.
The breakfast at Grosvenor House Hotel is indeed a not-to-miss appetising experience.
